Robert Bork, 85, one of the more intelligent
conservative judicial minds of the recent past, died early today
(Wed., the 19th).
He was nominated by Ronald Reagan to serve on the Supreme
Court. He was infinitely more qualified than Elena Kagan yet, was vilified by the Marxist Left of his day in a
way not experienced by any other nominee of our time. The Left used
race, for the first time successfully, as they defeated his nomination
58 to 42 in 1987. The drunk, Ted Kennedy led the charge. His
(Bork) demise has become the template for the Democrat Party as they zero in on
any conservative or opposition candidate. His vilification is the
stereotypical example used to destroy party opposition.
"Issues" with Democrats are almost never center stage to their
political strategies. The latest victim? Mitt Romney. But
Mitt is only the last on a long list of GOP/conservative candidates who have
been "Borked," over the years. Bob Dole and Judge Roberts are the only GOP nominees
who have escaped this bit of playground bullying, since Bork.
If you want to date the very beginning of the modern day use of character assassination by the Dems, write "Bork, 1987" on your calendar and you have it.
