Mission Statement: This blog reviews the news of the day in light of 242 years of American history. "Nationalism," a modern day pejorative, has been our country's politic throughout history, until 2008. Obama changed that narrative. Trump is seeking a return to our historical roots. Midknight Review supports this return to normality.
When the second amendment was written, firearms were flintlock... taking considerable time to reload. Could they possibly ever imagined a culture where you could buy semi automatic assault weapons on the internet delivered to yourt door and ammo at every Walmart.
Guns are not delivered to your home via mail in any state in this union. Semi automatics such as the AK-47 cannot be purchased anywhere in these states - the AR-15, a gun that fires off a 22 slug is legal and is the gun of choice for hunters throughout the nation.
There was a time when man used rocks, and then bows and arrows, and then flintlocks -- why would you think the Founders did not imagine a time when they would not have to build a bullet before firing it.
Never mind that gun fire from law abiding citizens is not a problem. Never mind that I need and want fire-power if and when my home is invaded by two or more felons. Never mind that there are more guns in Chicago and DC than ever, during a time when folks cannot purchase guns in those regions. Never mind that nearly all illegal hand-guns are stolen. Never mind that after the assault ban expired, gun violence continued to decrease.
