Now that Obama has come out of the closet, again, what has really changed?

Obama on Gay Marriage: An Oasis of Spoken Words.

I have to say,  as a 67 year old observer,  I have never seen someone as skillful as B Obama at convincing folks that he "has just done something special" when the very opposite is the truth. His latest coming out of the closet announcement is a typical example.

The first reports of his announcement read, "Barack Obama just announced he supports gay marriage"  (Huffington Post).  CNN and the AP used the same wording,  but what did Obama actually say?

On the Wednesday morning show at ABC, the words that inspired the NY Times headline, above the fold and in bold print, are these:

". . . . . .  I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”

Understand that in the world of political parlance, "a few moments later" is  equivalent to  "two, three, or four days" or "after you stop to think about it."     With that equation in mind,  it is safe for me to say that "moments later, after we all stopped to think about it, "  Obama said and did nothing to advance the political agenda that is gay marriage.  If there is a difference in meaning between the terms, "I support" and "I agree with,"  then those who were momentarily excited because of his proclamation  are, now,  waking up to the fact that his words held no promise for a change in policy.  "Agreement" was the rhetorical point of the day while  "support"  continued to be buried under the conflicted morass that is his evolving populace point of view.  There is a difference between a dialectic summation of truth and sheer confusion on an issue.  One is profoundly uncommon,  the other is uncommonly uncommon.  For Obama,  the latter is the truth of his position.  To put it in vulgar terminology,  the man does not know what the hell he believes. As a result,  much of his conversation is meaningless.

In the afterglow of his remarks,  38 states in our Union still have laws that ban or work against gay marriage.  7 of the 13 swing states in this election cycle stand opposed to his personal preference.   Moments after his statement,  we realized that he was  not talking about "platforms" and Constitutional amendments.

Me?  I am fine with his meaningless chatter.  It poses no real threat to what I believe or how I live my life.

My question is this:  why in the word did he choose to take this stand,  at this time,  during an election year he absolutely has to win?

When you come up with an answer to that question,  please tell me why he decided to challenge the Catholic Church,  as voting demographic or “choose off” white working blue collar workers or go after stay at home moms.

You think he is a campaign genius?  I think he is a buffoon.  Time will who is right on this matter, but,  if his comments did not foretell a policy change,  stated in clear and concise terms,  I missed the point of  the announcement,  altogether.  Come to think of it,  besides the anecdotal idea,  where is his plan,  what are his demonstrable values,  where is his detailed scheme for the future?  Without these,  I miss the point of his presidency, as well.
