I went to the news portal, Memeorandum, just now, and found these four headlines. Besides the obvious, take note of the "times" of each post, they were all posted within an hour of each other. And why is Santorum making JFK an issue? The general issue is Obama. of course. And, specifically, this election is about inflation, our foreign policy, namely the diplomatic failures that are both Iraq and Afghanistan, the growing disaster in Syria and Obama's ineptitude with regard to that theocracy. We tend to forget the hostages in Egypt and Day 18 of that fiasco; we have a level of corruption never seen before in modern times as concerns the secretive channeling of trillions via TARP, every nickel spent on Obama's watch and, we must assume, with his blessings; Fast and Furious is a national disgrace that can be tied to the Obama administration with ease; there is the theft of millions of retirement dollars originally funded by GM in primary stock options and stolen away as Obama made deals to give GM to the unions; there is the Chrysler failure, a company he "rescued" and is now fully owned by Fiat (in Germany) at a loss to the American taxpayer of 1.5 billion dollars. Most people do not know that the Stimulus of 2009 was about transferring billions into the hands of Democrats, 3/4 of all stimulus money went to Democrats and Democrat districts -- and I could go on and on.
And what does the genius, Rick Santorum, decide to do? Well, he has obviously decided to fight battles that were not issues in the mind of the public, to become the champion of conservative values as defined by himself and the Catholic Church, and to expand on that agenda rather than staying on track and dealing with the issues that have driven the National Angst for three years.
Read these headlines and ask yourself this question: "Until about 50 seconds ago, did I care more about Smithson's criticisms of Obama or what JFK said in a speech half a century ago?"

I don't know about anyone else, but I have no confidence in the campaign strategy of someone who would stray so far off the reservation as Santorum. Besides being a fairly unaccomplished Senator, we now have a potential presidential candidate who does not have the good sense to deal with election year issues.
Speaking as a retired pastor, I am telling those who will listen, that Rick (a good guy, on a personal level and deeply felt Christian) has decided to be the self-appointed Champion of Christian values when, in the past, he has been as compromised as those whom he criticizes.
He supported Planned Parenthood, voting more than once to fund that godless institution. He voted to double the size of the Department of Education. He voted to raise the debt ceiling five different times with no discussion of spending cuts. He supported Arlen Specter in his 2004 re-election bid, one of the most reprehensible fellows in American politics beginning with his help in the JFK murder cover-up (ahhhh . . . . . . . . did I just "stray off the reservation? I think I did - sorry").
Understand that Rick Santorum is no more a liberal or no less a conservative than the three gentlemen he is running against. While Ron Paul scares most Americans on issues of foreign policy, he has no major pieces of legislation in the 20 plus years he has served as Representative.
Santorum, likewise, was a total unknown before this campaign cycle, not a conservative leader either the House or the Senate. Gingrich and Romney are the only two candidates, in my humble opinion, who have distinguished themselves to such a degree as to qualify for this presidential race . . . . . . . . . . and Santorum is the only one of the four who thinks it better to talk about his passions rather than those issues on the minds of the voting public.
While none of my choices (Palin, Rubio and Ryan) chose to run for the presidency, the purpose of this election remains the same, it is all about beating Obama. Should not be too difficult an assignment unless, of course, you decide to run against someone else.
Good grief.
