Tonight (Thursday night) Bill O'Reilly told his audience that Obama
should bring the rich oil barons into the White House and order them to trade
in the world's market place in such a way as to bring done the price of
oil or he, the president, would do what he could to find oil supply from companies willing to comply with presidential order.
In making that appeal, O'Reilly
proved himself to be more the political novice than even I had
supposed. We need no more imperialist displays coming from
the White House. Obama had three and half years to get ready for this
current crisis, one that many people saw as high probably. Rather than take a dictatorial stance per O'Reilly's suggestion, Obama needs to announce plans to open up the permitting process, to lessen
environmental restrictions and costly delays, and stop wasting taxpayer
money "investing" in a green economy that is not the business of a
Constitutionally structure government. When Bush made a similar announcement, in July of 2008, the price per barrel began a downward move within 24 hours, a trend that took the pump price from $4.56 down to $1.83 in seven months, the pump price when Obama took office.
That is what O'Reilly should have said,
but, instead of that, he spoke of a "presidential"
solution that is inline with his own sense of arrogance.
Up until about two months ago, I
enjoyed listening to O'Reilly. But he has decided to make his opinions
and "solutions" the subject of each and every daily show --- in
addition to selling his tours and books. He has become boorish and
boring. He does not understand the need for a triumphant and conservative ideology any more than he understands the nature of his audience. I turn him "on" almost each night, hoping that he will not make an ass of himself. Usually, I am disappointed in the desire.
The Willis Report (Fox Business) is a happy alternative in the same time slot.
