CLASS, a significant part of ObamaCare, will be dropped from the program passed by the Democrats and signed into law, March 23 of 2010.
The truth about CLASS:
In suspending the CLASS program, HHS (Kathleen Sebelius, specifically) cited actuarial and solvency impediments as the reason why they had “not identified a way to make CLASS work at this time.” The full report sent to Congress is available here, along with the Secretary’scover letter. There is no indication if HHS will restart work on the CLASS program in the future. (Source: linked here)
Now, the Leftist Lie:
From the Foreigners at Think Progress:
Politically, Republicans see the possibility of eliminating CLASS as an opportunity to deal a severe blow to the President. But in reality, they would only be accelerating to the country’s long-term care crisis and reinforcing the belief that mandates are necessary for establishing balance in health care risk pools.
It is apparent, after reading the single paragraph, above, that the clowns at Think Progress want you to believe that the Republicans are responsible for bringing this program down. Instead of celebrating its demise, "Democrats and Republicans should join in an effort" to save the program. After all, it will help those who are in financial straits and the sick to make house payments or in-home care payments . . . . and the like. No one tells you "the good part" -- your monthly benefit would be less than $150 a month and you would have to pay an income tax on the monies received.Understand that in-home nursing care can run as high as $6.500 a month. A $150 monthly benefit is nearly an insult. Thank you Barack Obama for caring for the little man.
Think Progress (one wonders why the use of the word "Think") makes the point, in its article, that CLASS would reduce the deficit by $83 billion over a ten year period. "T.P." does not break that down, so, the folks on the Left might never know that this "83 billion over ten years" is 8.3 billion per year, the same amount of money as two days of deficit spending by our friends in the halls of Congress. In other words, it does nothing against the national debt. More than this, while this program supposedly saves us money - note the logic here - the bill fails because HHS cannot show enough money coming into the program to pay for the thing.
The bill fails because it does not pay its way? But what about the CBO numbers, you ask ? Understand that the Congressional Budget Office only scores financial information that is GIVEN TO ITS ACTUARIES. In this case, those numbers were obviously bogus. If Secretary Sebelius has to admit that she cannot show that CLASS will pay for itself, the program does not . . . . . . . . . . . well . . . . . . . . . . . . ahhhhh . . . . . . . . pay for itself.
What is true for CLASS is equally true for the classless health care bill, make no mistake.
