Our unique 7 day average (based on Rasmussen reporting) has Obama on a downward trend that is both substantial and undeniable. The most recent 7 day period, ending with Saturday's numbers, came in at 48.28%. One cannot appreciate the significance of this average apart from its historical context.
Understand that Obama's 7 day approval averages ran in the 47% range for 16 consecutive months, beginning in late 2009, the same year he took office. 47%, 47%, 47%, and then, there was the midterm elections and Obama's forced compromise with the GOP. His approval numbers immediately began to rise. He was being pitched as a man on the move to the "middle." And, that rhetoric appeared to be working. Within 10 weeks, his dreary averages had risen to a remarkable 49.86% on the Rasmussen Reports.
In the nine days immediately preceding his State of the Union speech, his daily approval numbers rose from 44% to 52% on the day of that speech.
And the Left raved about the speech. "Reagan like," "positive and uplifting," "full of promise and a willingness to compromise." Few media outlets reported that these wprds were, in fact, talking points, crafted in closed door meetings with the media in the hours before the State of the Union. And these talking points did not fool anyone. Within 48 hours of the speech, his 52% approval rating had fallen to 47%.
Today, the past seven days' [ending yesterday] average was only 48.28.%, down significantly from the past averages.
People did not buy into Obama's State of the Union. Neither is the continuing Egyptian crisis working well for the Novice in Chief. Talking out of both sides of one's mouth seldom does. You can't have Joe Biden defending Mubarak on the one hand, and Obama telling Mubarak to take a hike, on the other. You can't argue for freedom in Egypt while accepting the Muslim Brotherhood as a legitimate participants in the future of that nation.
You can't argue against "meddling in foreign governance" and, then, order the President of another country to resign and to resign "yesterday."
Point of post: Obama is his own worst enemy. Give him a little rope and a little time, and he will hang himself . . . . . . . over and over again.
he, he, he
