The Christian Broadcasting Network may have intentionally sabotaged Sarah Palin. At the very least, they owe her an apology, period.

Here is a great example of how folks can make or break a candidate, even when they do not have that intention. Our example is the Palin interview at CBN . That interview will air on The 700 Club, Monday.
The raw text of the interview was published by CBN and picked up by CNN, no friend of Sarah Palin. When you read the raw text, you will see the problem. It is a disaster. And, I am not sure that CBN proved their friendship for Palin.

I have taken an excerpt from the interview as reproduced by CBN and published it as it appeared on their website. In the second publication, the same excerpt but with quotations and a little window dressing. You will find the two read very differently. Unfortunately, the former will make the rounds.

I could not be more angry with CBN. To publish a raw text of an interview is simply never done, and for obvious reasons. You will be embarrassed for Palin with the first script, wondering why it appears to be so out of tune, so convoluted, so amateurish. . . . . . unlike any of her other interviews. This is an exception and it leaves us asking, "How could this be so poorly worded?" We have the answer, but first, take a couple of antagonizing moments and read the first version of the interview.

From the interview , a CBN reproduction of the live interviw:

“Remember, President Reagan lived that mantra trust but verify. We want to be able to trust those who are screaming for democracy there in Egypt, that it is a true sincere desire for freedoms and the challenge that we have though, is how do we verify what it is that we are being told, what it is that the American public are being fed via media, via the protestors, via the government there in Egypt in order for us to really have some sound information to make wise decisions on what our position is. Trust but verify, and try to understand is what I would hope our leaders are engaged in right now. Who’s going to fill the void? Mubarak, he’s gone, one way or the other you know, he is not going to be the leader of Egypt, that that’s a given, so now the information needs to be gathered and understood as to who it will be that fills now the void in the government. Is it going to be the Muslim Brotherhood? We should not stand for that, or with that or by that. Any radical Islamists, no that is not who we should be supporting and standing by, so we need to find out who was behind all of the turmoil and the revolt and the protests so that good decisions can be made in terms of who we will stand by and support.”

Maybe the problem is more the presentation of the text than Palin's delivery. Maybe the apparent disjointedness of the interview is the fault of those who set her words in print. I am going to change nothing in the above quotation but the punctuation and the addition of a word or two for purposes of context. See what you think.

“Remember, President Reagan lived that mantra, "trust but verify." We want to be able to trust those who are screaming for democracy, there in Egypt, that it is a true , sincere, desire for freedom(s) and the challenge that we have . . . . . though . . . . [that] is how do we verify what it is that we are being told, what it is that the American public are being fed via media, via the protesters, via the government there in Egypt, in order for us to really have some sound information to make wise decisions on what our position is. "Trust but verify," and try to understand, [that] is what I would hope our leaders are engaged in right now.

Who’s going to fill the void? Mubarak, he’s gone . . . . . one way or the other you know he is not going to be the leader of Egypt ; that that’s a given. So, now the information needs to be gathered and understood as to who it will be that fills -- now -- the void in the government. Is it going to be the Muslim Brotherhood? We should not stand for that or with that or by that . . . . . any radical Islamists. No, that is not who we should be supporting and standing by. So, we need to find out who was behind all of the turmoil and the revolt and the protests, so that good decisions can be made in terms of who we will stand by and support.”

Ah ! By jove, I think I have found the real problem. It is not Sarah. Rather, it is clearly those who reproduced her discussion in print; thoughtless and unprofessional. The first gives no consideration as to the fact that this was a live interview, not a "for print" article. The second version, mine, allows for the interview being "live."

The Governor should have a quiet sit-down with CBN, and give them a proper scolding. Their version of the interview was picked up published by CNN, yesterday. Not good.

When I that raw text is never published, I point you to the speech by Obama, tomorrow. He will be standing before the Chamber of Commerce, hoping they will forget his accusations and open warfare against them. The speech is already printed. It will read like a finished article or editorial. In fact, parts of his "live" speech was released today.

Palin needs to demand that no "raw text" be released before her speech writers give approval to the project. The unprofessionalism of the Christian network is appalling almost beyond explanation.
