Its titled "the Food Safety Bill." Its going to save all our fat kids from eating themselves to death. Heck, its going to add to our national security. After all, 1 out of 5 folks are too fat to qualify for military service. So that fact effects national security ??? That is what Michelle said. Seriously. One out of five Americans are too large to enlist. That's 60 million people. Soooo, how does that effect our military? Understand that there are less than 3 million folks in the military and the military reserve.
The fact of the matter is quite different from Michelle's reality. The pool of military-ready prospects is ten times the size of our military. There is no "national security problem" in this case. In fact, it is less than intelligent to charge such a thing. Just plain silly.
But more than this, the bill will cost the American taxpayer 4 billion dollars. Sounds like a lot of money. Indeed, it is . But this is how it will be administered to the various school districts effected by the law's demands.
The bill's requirement for specified and "healthy" meals will cost the various school districts across the country 35 cents per meal per student on average. The government will reimburse school districts to the tune of 6 cents per meal. Understand that approximately 34 million meals are prepared each year for our school children. The added cost of the Michelle Save Our Fat Children Bill will be close to 11 million dollars per year. The government's reimbursement will total just 2.5 million dollars.
But, at least the Feds are paying something !!! Right ? Ahhhh, not exactly. If the Feds keep their promise, the reimbursements will not be paid out for three full years from now. Understand that if economic conditions remain poor, three years from now, this legislation will become another unfunded mandate with no monetary relief forthcoming.
In most school districts, a full 85% of their budgets are mandated by governments at all levels. This
big government bill adds to that burden. It is through the mandate legislative process that the states and local governing bodies including the individual school districts, themselves, have lost control of their schools.
The national Department of Education has been around since 1979. Since its inception, American education has failed in increasing measure. . . . . . . . but what Marxist/socialist cares about that fact? The fact of the matter is this: state and local governments can do a better job than the Federal government. How do we know. Well, that was the fact before 1979.
