How is the Christmas season going for retailers?

It is proving to be the best of holiday seasons. Internet sales are up 12%. Walk-in foot traffic is up 4% . Understand that Americans have been saving money at record rates for the past two years. Fear of what Obama is doing in the "spending department" is part of the reason for this increase. As a result, individual saving totals have increased by 4% and folks have more to spend as the Christmas season continues.

It is proving to be the best Christmas season for retail sales since 2006, back in the day when things were great and unemployment was at 4.6%.

We expect the economy to improve. That is what economies do, especially capitalist economies. Now that the tax question is settled for two more years, we expect to see a marked increase in the recovery. Healthcare continues to be a negative influence as to hiring purposes and that is something the new congress has to be concerned about, since Obama and Comrades are not.

Understand that if the economy does experience a significant recovery after the 112th Congress is installed, Obama's claim's for success will be muted.

At any rate, it is a good season for most retailers. Many folks are in a bad way, however, and we all need to make ourselves aware of their distress. Let's not forget that 23 million folks are unemployed or underemployed. Christmas spending is not being done by them. Rather, it is the remaining work force -- people feeling more secure in their job circumstance, and senior citizens (Grandma and Grandpa).
