Fed Chairman and historian, Ben Bernanke. He is not an evil man, not at all, but the Fed needs to be accountable to someone other than him or whoever happens to be Chairman.
Americans Still Strongly Favor Audit of the Fed
That is the headline and here is the real news; the GOP House membership is putting Ron Paul, R-TX -- and father of new Senator Rand Paul) in charge of the House oversight of the Fed. If you know anything about Ron Paul, you know that he is a brilliant politician, an informed economist and no friend to the opaque dealings of the Fed. And now, he is about to become Chairman of the House subcommittee on Monetary Policy.
Understand that the Fed and Mr. Bernanke used TARP funds to feed the banking industry between 9 trillion and 24 trillion dollars. We believe the money was not lost nor was criminality involved [or so it seems], but the banking industry did receive a huge influx of money under cover of the closed system that is the Feds. Someone needs to know what is going on, someone other than those in charge of the Fed, itself. Perhaps, a House committee or a review panel. Certainly, it does not need to be a public review, nor should it be a partisan board. But the secrecy of the Fed needs to come to an end and now is the time for that to happen.
Ron Paul, the 70 year old Representative from Texas, is the incoming Chairman of the Subcommittee on Monetary Policy.
The Democrats apparently do not believe in Congressional oversight. They have had four years to set up some avenue for financial accountability, but, as long as everyone is on their side, they apparently do not think accountability is important. Representative Paul is the GOP's answer to this Democrat policy of hidden transactions and closed door dealings. He graduated from the Duke University of Medicine. He is Ranking Member of the Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade and Technology subcommittee, and Vice-Chair of the Oversight and Investigations subcommittee.
Although a solid libertarian Republican, he is unpopular with the GOP Establishment because of his opposition to war. We guarantee the reader that you will find nothing more interesting that reading Paul's printed opinions, many of which are found here.
