Once every four years, examiners from the Federal Reserve are to visit each bank in the nation to insure that certain banking regulations are being followed. Examiners came to a bank in Perkins, Oklahoma last week. When they left the bank being reviewed, "Merry Christmas, God with us" was taken down along with a Bible verse appropriate to the season, posted in plain view within the bank.
Buried in Federal regulations is a "discouragement clause." It cautions against the "use of words, symbols, models and other forms of communication ... express, imply or suggest a discriminatory preference or policy of exclusion."
Apparently, the Federal Reserve believes this clause allows them to kick God out of the public square. Who knew that the Fed is a tool for social justice, a moral authority in addition to a regulatory agency.
The bank is not taking this laying down. It has gone to the Oklahoma Bankers Association and have made appeals to Oklahoma congressmen, Rep. Frank Lucas and Sen. Jim Inhoffe.
The bank was not named in the report we found. If you want to help, contact the congressmen above:
Lucas can be contacted at locations found here.
Inhoffe's contact info can be found here.
