Obama's speech the first of this week should have been something he skipped out on. He lost six approval points because he didn't.

On the day of Obama's Oval Office speech, televised nationally, his approval number was sitting on 48% and the hope for the Dems was that he was about to hit the 50% mark for the first time in over a year. Instead, his numbers have fallen to 44% yesterday and a near record low on Rasmussen Reports of 42% today. What is even worse is that only 24% of the population enthusiastically approves of the Obama presidency, according to Rasmussen.

Conclusion: Obama has no demonstrable ability to change current public opinion. He came to the White House with a long list of personal theories and social goals. Turns out his agenda, borne of angst against a system that rewards "the rich, fat cat businessman," has nothing to do with the hopes and dreams of the American electorate. His "hope and change" did not line up with the voters thinking on "hope and change" and he is now paying the price for his failure to read the voters mind.
