Midknight Review surveys Politico's summary of Obama's "accomplishments."

Editor's notes: In a rather lengthy Politico article detailing reasons for the serious election-related problems Obama is facing, the partisan authors have this to say: . . . . . You can argue over whether Obama’s achievements are good or bad on the merits. But especially after Thursday’s vote [Wall Street Reform - jds] you can’t argue that Obama is not getting things done. To the contrary, he has, as promised, covered the uninsured, tightened regulations, started to wind down the war in Iraq and shifted focus and resources to Afghanistan, injected more competition into the education system and edged closer to a big energy bill.

While the article ranks as a "must read," this paragraph of thought is borne of a conviction that Obama has done exactly what he said he would do. We hear this sort of thing often. Understand that there is a difference between "truth" and a "Left wing perspections."

Take the first example in the quote above: insurance coverage of the uninsured.

First, as a reality, this does not happen for 4 years !! Secondly, it implies that because this feature is in the reform bill, this particular healthcare bill is what the people wanted. In point of fact, the healthcare reform bill is far from desired legislation and is a major campaign issue for the GOP precisely for that reason.

The articles second point of accomplishment is "tightened regulations."

Understand that the current recession was not the result of "deregulation" or the lack of regulation. It was the result, specifically, of liberal socialist policies that demanded increased percentages in high risk loans to the working poor who, in reality, could not meet financial requirements designed to protect them from losses. We are on track to see more than a million homes go into foreclosure this year, an all-time record. "Regulations" are not the answer. Enforcement is. . . . . and no one in the current Administration is admitting to this failure. Obama has increased the power of Government without solving any of the issues contributing to the current mess. Does anyone actually believe this sort of thing will never happen again ?? THAT is the promise of this bunch of flunkies.

They write of Obama starting "to wind down the war in Iraq."

This is so off-base as a point of accuracy as to be laughable. One "winds down a war" by WINNING the war and that is exactly what George Bush did. Bush had no intentions of staying in Iraq "forever." But, he had every intention of winning that war. Obama would not even think about bringing troops home if it had not been for the successful war strategy of G.W. Bush. Reality trumps lies and politics, on this point, every time.

Their point of the advancement of the Afghan war is their only accurate point and we are all beginning to worry as to just how successful Obama's strategy will be in this conflict.

The Politico writers mention Obama's education policy.

On this point, there is no reason to see or brag about improvement. Indeed, he has encouraged competition within educational ranks - something teacher unions hate. Understand that education in this country is not in the mess it is in because of lack of competition or missing revenues or increased educational requirements. Rather, education's failure centers in the issue of content as relates to the basics of a traditional system - something we have deemed to be outdated. Time has proven the liberal pundits to be hugely wrong on this point. Downward trends in educational results run parallel to the liberal/socialist control of the system.

Finally, there is the matter of the energy bill.

They mention this as if something has actually been accomplished on this point. In fact. nothing will be accomplished by the 111th Congress before the election. It is rumored that the Fascist Socialists in power will use the Lame Duck Congress to pass legislation the people, once again, do not want but they will never be able to claim populace support for this legislation, should it come to pass.

Point of post: Obama is "in trouble" because of abject failure, not because of ill conceived misconceptions. -- jds
