Editor's notes: understand that the battle is not over spending but deficit spending. It is the Dems who passed "paygo," a legislated order that all funding bills be paid for. It is the Dems who violated that restriction with the very next bill passed through Congress. This current bill is an important one for those who are out of the work and need help but there are those who are demanding that it be paid for. . . . . . . . . and they are the evil ones !!!?
From the great folks at OpenCongress: After two weeks of solid debate — and two weeks of people having their unemployment insurance cut off because of congressional inaction — the Senate this morning took their first test vote on passing H.R. 4213, the “American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010.” They failed miserably. The final vote count was 45-52. Sixty votes were needed to proceed. . . . . . No Republicans voted in favor of the motion, and 11 Democrats broke rank and voted with Republicans against it. . . . you will want to read the full report here.
This is the first major spending bill in 17 months that has failed. Why now? The 2010 midterms are just around the corner. Note that 11 Democrat Senators voted "no" to a spending bill that represents and increase of $80 billion more in deficit spending. Let the games -- and we do mean "games" -- begin !!
keys: deficit spending, HR 4213, paygo
