BP agrees to pay for the clean up in the Gulf; Obama (the Feds) wants tax hike to pay for the clean-up. We say, Huh ??

Here is the AP story: WASHINGTON (AP) - Responding to the massive BP oil spill, Congress is getting ready to quadruple—to 32 cents a barrel—a tax on oil used to help finance cleanups. The increase would raise nearly $11 billion over the next decade.

The tax is levied on oil produced in the U.S. or imported from foreign countries. The revenue goes to a fund managed by the Coast Guard to help pay to clean up spills in waterways, such as the Gulf of Mexico.

Setting aside the tax increase thingy, the reasoning sounds good, right? We need money to clean up the Gulf oil spill. Yes !! I will sacrifice to that end !! Amen !! Oh, and "Right on !!"

Except for one leeettle thing -- BP is on the hook for the entire clean up bill and all related costs and expense. If managed properly, there will be no cost to the taxpayer. . . . . .

anything for an excuse for this bunch of big spenders !!!! -- jds

Another lie that sounds good for the purpose of raising taxes on the middle class, among others.
