Obama's speech, the "freeze" and the truth . . . more smoke and mirrors.

Yes, blowing smoke will be the name of the game, tonight.

Think about this: tonight, Obama will tout his freeze on government spending and he will make it sound good. Oh, he will admit that much more can be done in this arena, but this is a start and will save a "whopping 240 billion dollars" over the course of the next ten years -- compared to $ 9 trillion in actual spending (which he will not mention).

Neither will he mention the fact that none of the proposed cuts will be approved by the current Congress. He will not admit that he has increased discretionary spending by 24% over the past year - 3 times the average increase for any previous president.

Nor will he put his "freeze" into a historical context. To wit: the freeze will fix his increases for discretionary spending at $63 billion for 2011; $82 billion for 2012 and 79 billion for 2013. In other words, his spending policies WILL NOT BE REVERSED for the three proposed years of the "freeze." Of course he can put a freeze into effect - he has already jacked up spending by the totals we have just presented.
