Obama's negatives on this Index is a measure of the passion of those who support and oppose Mr. Obama. Midknight Review - New and Revised, expects this number to decrease now that the issue of health care reform is [nearly] over. It would be a mistake for the Marxist/Liberal faction to pretend that the decreasing numbers, an apparent good thing for Obama, is an indication that all is forgotten and forgiven. Nothing could be further from the reality of the matter.
Obama's decline in popularity is the sharpest for all presidents and extends to all polls interviewing "most likely voters." Rasmussen is one of those polls. Gallup is another.
We do not anticipate a reconstitution of Obama's popularity. Dissatisfaction has been allowed to "hang around" for far too long for it not to be systemic as relates to popularity. In other words, Obama's popularity numbers are now a reflection of what he has done and the growing list of broken promises and no longer a measure of our "first impressions" of the man. He is hard left and fully capable of saying and promising anything in order to get his way -- truth and reality be damned. In fact, it is his "double speak" that has brought his numbers down.
On the Left, there is grave disappointment in Obama's war policy, his decision to slow the withdrawal from Iraq, his drone-to-kill policy in Pakistan and the fact that he had no plan for closing GITMO in 2009 as he had promised. Another area of disappointment is his delay in dealing with the Clinton approved "don't ask, don't tell" military policy.
On the Right, his sharp decline is the result, in part, of a growing awareness that Obama is hell-bent on the transformation of the United States from a free market system that embraces constitutional values and individual freedoms to a Marxist/Socialist governance modeled after the European industrialized nations. The vast majority of Americans do not want this transition. Added to this primary concern is the amateurishness of his foreign policy, his complete disregard for a bipartisan association with the GOP, and his inability to offer solutions that do not include the borrowing and giving away of huge sums of money - spending some $11 trillion during his first year in office [counting the Administration's misuse of TARP and interest requirements on his increasing debt]. One additional negative is the disrespect he has accrued from the enemies of our country, namely, Chavez, the Iranian midget President, Putin, Castro, and the North Korean President Ill.
All this goes into our assessment that his unpopularity is "systemic" and not simply a knee-jerk reaction to his words and actions. The division is deep and will continue into the come two election cycles.
