Random thoughts and notes about our political process::
1. There is no reason to believe that a populist candidate will do what he promises to do
2. Sadly, there is no reason to believe that an ideologue will do what he promises to do, either.
3. And this
is why folks in both camps are so angry. As it turns out, the
political elite, whether Democrat or Republican, is more the problem
than ideology or pragmatic popularism.
Progressive Dems want their promised utopia to actually work as promised. It never does, and why? Because it can't. It is not possible to bring peace on earth via political process or military might. Why? Because this world is full of self-serving politically evil human beings. They are authoritarian in practice, thuggish in essence, and unforgiving when it comes to political opposition. Examples of these issues include Russia's Putin, the leadership in Venezuela, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Syria, Sudan, DR Congo, Pakistan, Somalia,
Afghanistan, Iraq, Myanmar, Yemen, Nigeria, Turkey, China, N Korea, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Saudi Arabia. I present this list simply to prove the fact that my criticism is not an abstract. There is a certain brutality that existes in each of the above named countries.
4. More than the Brutal League of Nations (above), no nation in the world, and I am talking about the European nations as well as all others, has the constitutional demand for protected free speech of the United States. Do not believe the articles that name the United States as 20th on a list of "free" nations. There is no nation in this world with the liberties of the United States . . . none.
5. Finally, our elective process is the most complicated and representative/democratic of any nation in this world. Think about it: A president must compete in more than 50 state and provincial elections before being sworn in as the national leader. But before he/she goes to the state elections, each must win in a grueling primary process. By the time one sworn in as president, she has gone through or competed in more than 100 state/primary elections. Again, no other nation has this kind of scrutiny and, still, sometimes we wind up with a Nixon or an Obama.
