COLD FEET -- "Kerry Puts Brakes on CIA Torture Report," by Bloomberg View's Josh Rogin:"Secretary of State John Kerry personally phoned Dianne Feinstein, chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Friday morning to ask her to delay the imminent release of her committee's report on CIA torture and rendition during the George W. Bush administration ... [H]is call came after an interagency process that decided the release of the report early next week, as Feinstein had been planning, could complicate relationships with foreign countries at a sensitive time and posed an unacceptable risk to U.S. personnel and facilities abroad.
"Kerry told Feinstein he still supports releasing the report, just not right now. ... Hill staffers and human rights advocates saw the Kerry call as a stunning reversal by an administration that has publicly supported the report's release for months. ... [I]f the release is pushed off past next week, Feinstein will no longer head the committee, and the incoming chairman, Republican Richard Burr, could very well prevent the report from being released at all."http://bv.ms/1Bn9w4B
Editor's notes: Our "torture" is nothing like that of the enemy's. As far as I know, not one person every died or was disfigured by American "torture." Consequently, I could not care less about this report or its bias.
What is surprising, however, is the fact that the current Dictatorship occupying our White House, has put the quebash on this report. I can't imagine that the incoming GOP majority will allow its publication, so it is now or never for this bit of tripe. The decision could be reversed, of course, but, for now, this is the end of the report and the effort to treat Bush as a "war time criminal."

Most religious republicans support the torture of Arabs, non-christians, and other dark skinned people.
ReplyDeleteSooooo, you know most Republicans? I will bet you don't know a single religious Republican who fits the description you have read. You want everyone to think in terms of constituencies. With regard to "torture," I want any and all who are determined to kill Americans to be interrogated with whatever it takes to find out who they plan on killing next. It is a "good versus evil" issue with me and all those I know. It is your side that wants to pass judgment on those they do not know, burn down their businesses, haunt their families and ransack their homes.
DeleteReport:
Delete“At no time did the CIA’s coercive interrogation techniques lead to the collection of imminent threat intelligence, such as the hypothetical ‘ticking time bomb’ information that many believe was the justification for the use of these techniques.”
And they lied about it.
The report also found that the CIA lied about the effectiveness of torture, misleading both the government and the public.
“The study details how the CIA used inaccurate information to obtain legal and policy approval to use the CIA’s ‘enhanced interrogation techniques. The CIA provided inaccurate information to the White House, Congress, the Justice Department, the CIA inspector general, the media, and the American public.”
and...
“The CIA deployed individuals without relevant training or experience. CIA also deployed officers who had documented personal and professional problems of a serious nature — including histories of violence and abusive treatment of others — that should have called into question their employment, let alone their suitability to participate in the sensitive CIA program.”
Christian president tortures and kills in the name of Jesus. Conservatives like the blog editor approve.
Key findings:
1. Torture doesn't work.
2. The CIA lied to justify it.
Nothing we already didn't know.
Denialists and supporters of torture come forward... (Dick Cheney, et al)
We are talking about circumstances that are between 13 years old and 9 years old. Good grief, you Democrats have nothing to do but come up with very old "news." George Tenet's CIA is what is in question, here, a service that was organized under Bill Clinton and BY BILL'S APPOINTMENT. George was a Democrat operative. None of this was done without select members of Congress in both parties, full knowledge and approval. Besides, lying to get a favorable outcome is a Democrat strategy, ala ObamaCare or the Iranian nuclear strategy or the Benghazi cover-up or Obma's pretense at educational qualification.
DeleteUnder no circumstance, do I care about this report. We needed to know what we found out from the three men we "tortured." At one time, 75% of what we knew about Al Qaeda was taken from these harsh interrogation sessions. . . . . . and, again, this is an assumed scandal that is more than a decade old.
