Mahar makes his points and destroys the fantasy that Islam is not a violent religion. He gives examples of "peaceful Muslim nations" (Saudi Arabia beheaded 19 people last month, many for non-violent crimes) , challenges the notion that the Koran is a book of peace (he feels the same about the Koran as he does about the Bible, btw), all of this while refuting the argument that Christianity is equally violent.
Maher is excellent as usual.
ReplyDeleteSmithson believes ancient texts written during the Bonze age as 'the divine word of God'. Intellectually embarrassing anachronisms. So many people believe, so it must be true.
Find a better prophet.
"Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel." - Deuteronomy 17:12
"They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman." - 2 Chronicles 15:12-13
" If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. " - Deuteronomy 13:7
Thoughts as I contemplate the above comments of a self centered existentialist (is there any other kind of existentialist?) : The commandments were given to Israel, not to the world and, certainly, not to foster a world wide caliphate . . . . . . . just to Israel. Further, in practice, this sort of thing did not happen, or, at least, we have no historic evidence that it did. Which means, there were other mitigating circumstances of which we do not know. But, again, these comments were given to Israe exclusive of all other entities.
ReplyDeleteUnderstand that the Jihadist Muslim forces others to join Islam or die. This is absolutely not the case with Israel. In that social circumstance, one was born a Jew and while converts did exist, there is no charge, within scripture, directing the Jews to convert the world. Israel's place in the world's economy was via birthrite. Islams place in the world is via pathological enforcement and the most extreme form of sexism imaginable. The Christians place in the world, is advanced via willing conversion, peace and love expressed to all men, and the sacrificial death of its author and finisher, Jesus of Nazareth. There is no similar example of faith and practice in any of the other world religions, and, most certainly, not with regards to Islam . . . . a 7th century invention of a mad-man.
Secondly, the Koran, directs murderous acts against Christians and Jews, by name, and for all time. Nothing of that sort exists in the Jewish Scriptures (you call it "the Old Testament"). The context of these Old Testament comments went to national preservation. Similar comments in the Koran, go to world domination and an eternal purging of the infidel, specifically, Jews and Christians . . . . . big difference.
The scriptures specific to Christian life and conduct - the New Testament - contain nothing of the sort . . . . not a word similar to either your Old Testament examples are the hundreds of Koranic examples we can find. .
Finally, and as usual, you have no clue as to what I believe. So, what does William do? He makes up crap, assumes his fantasies to be fact (like his Utopian view of human nature and the world), inserts a straw man into the discussion, and debates THAT circumstance.
