In the AP/GFK survey taken over the past several days and posted here, we have the following results:
Right direction/wrong direction: Only 37% believe we are headed in the right
direction as a nation, while a
disturbing 62% believe otherwise. Can
the Democrat spin machine fool the majority,
come November of 2014? They
couldn’t in 2010.
Approve / disapprove of the way Obama is doing his job as
president: 41% say “yes,” while 59% say no. What is meaningful in this comparison, is it's close proximity to the notion of “right
direction/wrong direction.” Obama’s
disapproval number, here, is the highest scored in the past three
years. Even more troubling for the Democrats, is the fact that disapproval for the Slickmeister is surprisingly consistent and trending downward for the first [extended] time in his presidency.
His handling of the economy,
in general, scores 39% with a 59% to the negative. Telling folks the "recession is over," or "we are in recovery" does not add to his approval. Most know that what we see as "recovery," is simply a resilient private sector making adjustments and dealing with the Obama Reality.
His handling of the budget is even worse: 36% approve with 61 % disappointed. Maybe, just maybe, the folks are beginning to understand that our national debt is not liberating, and increased taxation does not make us stronger as a nation.
Immigration is seen more as an Obama problem than previously
with a 38/61 divide. I am not sure the Hispanic community gets it, but the fact remains that Obama could have given that community "comprehensive immigration" that included full and irreversible amnesty for all "illegals" in this country, in 2009, as promised. The fact of the matter is this: he simply did not want to take the time to do so. The GOP was helpless throughout that first year, helpless to resist anything Obama and his One World Without Borders comrades, thought to do. Instead they wasted their opportunity and have but one piece of substantial legislation to show for their efforts in the "first five," and that is the abortion we know as ObamaCare.
The AP poll also shows a slight lead for the GOP as to who
should run the government. A one or two point lead in this category, often and surprisingly, translates into a very good election cycle for the GOP and conservative populations.
Even the teaparty comes out in fairly good shape in the survey; only 37% of the population actually sees the teaparty as very much out of touch. THAT is what we will hear, for the Left. But the fact of the matter is really, very different. Rather than two thirds of the nation despising the teaparty conservative, 63% see teaparty conservatives as [only] "somewhat disapproving" to fully approving. Constitutionally Concern Conservatives should find hope in this increasing "somewhat" category. It means that folks are not "wholly opposed or in favor,"rather, "just kind of" opposed or against; hardly the unequivocal "we despise Right Wingers" that will be the raging rhetoric in the days to come.
Everything favors a conservative victory in the fall. Can the GOP control the campaign narrative, or will it be drawn off subject, fighting battles it cannot win, only to give the Democrats continued control of the Senate?
Like they say, "Time will tell."
