Random notes and a brief review of Obama's State of the Union speech. (updated)

Random notes on the state of our Union and the Obama speech.

Update:  62% of Americans see the State of the Union address as nothing but show.  This high number cuts across party lines.

Update:  I think it interesting that only 70 folks have clicked on this article compared to two or three hundred for many of my other posts.  Point?  No one is interested in his "blah blah blah."

There really isn't much that we can say about this speech.  As usual,  his speech was longer than any of us want to listen to.  It was a speech short on bi-partisanship and a conciliatory tone.  Nor,  did he even hint at the lies and misinformation surrounding ObamaCare and the obvious failure that it has become.  In fact,  it was 40 minutes into the speech, before he got to ObamaCare.  Understand that this bill is the single defining issue of the past five years  -  and it is evolving into a very sad and frustrating joke.  In  a Frank Luntz survey,  the phrase “We are in the process of fixing that” brought an extremely negative response from all party members  - down in the 30 percentile bracket  -  again, the negative opinions were equally intense for Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike.

Strangely,  he described the five year, job market picture,  as a failure for the middle class.  Understand that he is talking about HIS recovery,  his policies,  his domestic workforce agenda.

He is making an issue out of "income equality."  Understand that "income equality" has worsened under the Obama "recovery. 68% of the people in a recent WaPost survey feel that the country is on the wrong track as regards to job growth and prosperity.

It was surprising to me to hear Obama speak of the wage disparity between men and women.  Have we all forgotten the Lilly Ledbetter Act, signed into law in the early spring of 2009?  Why did that bill not solve this problem AS CLAIMED at the time of its signing?  If women are earning 23 cents per hour than men,  the Democrats have NO ONE TO BLAME BUT THEMSELVES - Lilly Ledbetter is proof and reason for this statement.

More than 3 million people under 26 and more than 9 million have signed up for ObamaCare. The Washington Post challenged this numbers, but,  more than this,  folks who are signing up for Medicaid are doing so at the same rates as before ObamaCare.  Obama is claiming these folks as he counts the 12 million who have signed up for ObamaCare.  The actual number is 2.2 million,  with almost no verification as to who has actually paid for their  new policies for insurance through the federal exchanges.  More than this,  less than 25% of American youth have signed up,  a number that is well below the 40% this Administration says is critical for the financial future of this bill.

Obama wants to raise taxes and increase regulations on the oil industry,  but did not talk about that fact,  in this speech.

In comments about terrorism,  he said,  "The [al Qaeda] threat has evolved,"  an admission that al Qaeda is NOT on the run as claimed just a year ago.  And,  during the speech,  he brought up the closing of GITMO,  a broken promise that is 5 years old,  now.

Greatest intensity -  "ObamaCare" brought a negative populace response.

In the speech,  he made this statement with some emotion:  "The debate is settled – climate change is a fact”  Independents and conservatives strongly disagreed.

He referred to himself 74 times and used the word “I” more than 50 times.  In other words,  nothing new on this front.

Pollster Frank Luntz:  When Obama talked about tax reform,  he received his most intense positive response.
