The Senate gun law is not that bad. If it passes into law, we are done with it and little compromise to the 2nd Amendment will have been occurred.

Controversial gun legislation cleared a key Senate hurdle Thursday, as lawmakers voted 68-31 (with 16 Republicans voting to end filibuster/discussions) to start debate on the package which includes expanded background checks and new penalties for gun trafficking. 

The amendment likely to be at the front of the line is one from Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Pat Toomey, R-Pa., which would scale back the call for universal background checks. Neither does the bill ban "assault" weapons and will not open the door to universal registration and/or gun confiscation nor require liability insurance coverage.   All in all,  it is not that bad,  and will continue to allow a great deal of freedom for gun owners.
