Religion in congress and an observation from the past.

I do not know how accurate my memory is,  but back in 1959,  John Kennedy was about to run for president and the fundamentalist church told us over and over again,  that the Catholic Church was about to takeover America. I was  a high school freshman,  then,  and I believed the rhetoric.  Little did we know that 50 years later,  the major Catholic players in Congress,  would defy their faith on issues such as abortion and prayer in school as they moved the nation into the abyss of secularism.  At the time,  back in 1960,  I remember the count on congressional Catholics to be 144.  Today it is 156 and those "damned" Catholics have joined arms with the evangelical church to a degree few would have imagined,  years ago  --  and that is a good thing.

How the 112th congress compares with the american public
