I am anti-abortion but I think it a mistake to believe in an overnight change.

Social Conservatives Unite For Santorum  is the headline.  Understand that Rick Santorum is not an evangelical,  he is a very committed Catholic.  And the Roman Catholic Church's view of sex stresses "for procreation only."  It, also, has no middle ground when it comes to abortion . . . . .  it is wrong for any reason.

By contrast,  Barack and Michelle Obama believe that there are no reasons to allow an unborn child to live after it has been designated for destruction (i.e. "abortion). He and she are fine with killing the baby even if it happens to survive an abortion attempt and is born healthy and alive.

Santorum's view saves lives and is the way things were 50 years ago.  Barack and Michelle's position is where we have gone with the notion that unborn life is not human.  That's right,  the Left believes that the unborn is not a human being, or so they say.

There are 1.3 million abortions per year and well over a million are "recreational abortions."  They do not involve the health or well-being of the mother.  Worse, yet, is the fact that there is no "partial birth" abortion that save the life of a mother . . . . . .   the child has already passed through the birthing canal and is "out" except for a toe or the very top of the head.

Santorum cares about the unborn,  the opposition does not. There is no concern for the unborn whatsoever.    It is that simple. In fact,  the opposition is lead by a very angry core constituency that would be comfortable wearing a Nazi patch on their arms, or so it seems.     And that side has won the legal battles, to date. The passing of time and the host of legal successes has complicated the path for reversal.

I believe there are only two  promising actions for reversal of this barbaric enterprise . . .  the incremental legislative approach and a fierce educationally based reconditioning process of public opinion.   Keep in mind that the pro-life campaign has to appeal to the voting majority.  In a free and representative society,  the "vote" is the ultimate power.  If we,  the pro-life concern,  cannot enlist "the vote" as the majority opinion,  we cannot be successful.  To take and press a strategy that drives voters away from an ultimate pro-life solution is to do more harm to the unborn than we intend.

Battles that we can win in today's political economy:

  • The extinction of partial birth abortions (78% of voters oppose this idiocy).
  • The end of all federally funded abortions (60% of voters support this opinion).
  • The radical increase of educational opportunities against abortion.  People need to SEE what happens in an abortion.
This is where we need to begin.  Santorum is doing the cause no good at all.  The ugly reality is that the majority voter is not on his side and,  as righteous as the pro-life position is,  we need the popular vote to win.
