Did Newt ask for an open marriage. I don't think so and here is why:

 Look,  who knows for certain,  but today's ABC gutting of Gingrich includes his ex-wife making the claim that during the Lewinsky scandal,  Speaker Newt decided to call her on the stinking phone and pop the question:  "Hey Babe,  want to have an open marriage relationship,  me,  you and Callista (his current wife)?  No way anyone will find out."  

Yeah.  That is exactly what any red-blooded American male would do.  I mean, the strategy is profound:  give the old lady a call and casually ask her about sharing "our" glorious naked bodies with another woman.  Perfect !!  Do it on the phone. I mean,  who wants to see the response. Why, no one,  of course.   

I don't know about you,   but this sounds a little ridiculous,  on its face.  What if his time of infidelity was just a normal adulterous affair and nothing more?  

He has admitted wrong doing in all this and asked for forgiveness - well before this campaign season,  I might add.  

And his daughters fully support their dad.  That should count for much,  I think.  

Bill Clinton never asked for forgiveness,  near as I remember.  

Let's forgive the man and move on.
