I am fine with Newt. He is not my first choice,
by any stretch of the imagination, but we can win with him as our
representative. This idea that Obama is so strong, as a campaigner,
that if we don't "get this right," he will be swept back
into office an idea that is silly wrong.
Mark Steyb would not agree, but Rush
does agree. In an effort to be fair, however, here is a reference
to Stein's comments as he explains/defends a negative article on Newt, he
just published in the National Review:
Mark Steyn, one of the magazine’s columnists
and author of the year-end cover story, explained on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show
Thursday why Newt is a bad choice.
“If you’re like me and you think, you know your idea
of a conservative president is Calvin Coolidge – Newt is actually the
antithesis of that. Newt has – what’s his website called,
GingrichSolutions.org, American Solutions? He’s got more solutions to stuff
that most of us didn’t even know were problems. This is his thing to have giant
mirrors in space to light America’s highways by night and reduce
the carbon footprint.”
Let's be real, for just a moment. Newt's
ideas will have to be agreed to, legislatively speaking, before
becoming law. He will be serving with a conservative congress, we
hope. He will have to be team player. He will not do what Obama is
doing, serve as resident and de facto dictator. Because
of this fact, I am not afraid of Newt's ideas. At least, he
will have some. We do not need radicalism in the White House, but
Newt is not radical, in any sense of the word. Rather, he is
"innovative" and we desperately need that, at this
time.
