I call it "leach diplomacy." Obama feeding off the flow of human events and taking credit for that which seems (at the moment) to benefit his presidency. In Mubarak's case, we have an evil man, to be sure, but a pro-West dictator, honoring a 35 year treatise with Israel and allowing Christians to worship, openly, in the country.
One thing that is missing in Obama's foreign policy is this thing called "diplomacy." He has no clue as to the purpose and process of diplomacy. One would think the need to confer behind closed doors would be a no brainer. But when "no brainers" run foreign policy, "time for talk is over, time for action is now," and, failure stands in the shadows.
And what is the result, in the case of Egypt? Mubarack is gone, "betrayed" in public address by Obama without the benefit of private negotiations. In Murbarak's place, we now have an Egypt that is burning Christian churches, ransacking US and British embassies, making allegiances with Iran and Russia, funneling weapons into Gaza, and working for the destruction of Israel.
You will excuse me for not getting excited about our supposed "success in Libya." Gadafi is dead. That is all we really know.
We have been in Libya for 8 months after Obama told us the lie, "We will be there days, not weeks." Understand that absolutely no one believed that rhetorical nonsense when Obama made the announcement. It is a shame that Obama's public announcements are good for nothing except to frame the debate in such a way as to benefit his personal agenda. The immaturity of his plans is startling. We now know that his Egyptian policy was nothing more than a knee jerk response to internal events within that nation.
I believe "ditto" for his Libyan policy. Apparently, this Administration gives no credit to the fact that Libya is a Muslim nation after the order of a Middle East Muslim circumstance. Will Libya go the way of Egypt? The sad truth of the matter is this: the Obama Administration has no idea. Certainly, we have video record of Libyan rebels thanking the US for its help. But, then, there is all that news about Libyan alliances being made with Iran and Syria. There is the matter of thousands of weapons, now missing from "storage," including hundreds of short range, land to air, missiles. There is the influence of the anti-West, Muslim Brotherhood, and its roll in the developing Libyan ruling class.
Gadafi is dead !!! How will this effect Middle East - US policy? We will just have to wait until it is reported in the papers.
