In his 2009 Cairo speech, Obama framed Israel as an "occupier" of Palestinian lands (West Bank) and in so doing, laid much of the foundation for the increasing hatred Israel is facing in the Middle East at this very time. He has publicly and repeatedly humiliated Prime Minister Netanyahu and since becoming president, has refused to step foot in that country.
In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood is being encouraged to participate in the new government of that nation by Barack Hussein Obama. In fact, he refuses to admit that a primary aspect of the Brotherhood's agenda is its hope to destroy Israel.
In another Mid-East venue, 500 Sunni and Shia Muslim scholars are meeting in an Islamic Unity Conference on Feb 19 -21 with a view of an united Muslim state in the Middle East. That meeting is to be held beginning three days from now.
Iran, with no diplomatic ties to the Mubarak led Egypt, has offered its support to the uprising there, with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei calling for an Islamic regime to be elected in Egypt. According to Ahmadinejb, "The final move has begun. We are in the middle of a world revolution . . . . . . . . A great awakening is unfolding. One can witness the hand of Imam in managing it" (as reported by France 24 on the 11 of this month).
In the Times of India, we have the report of two Iranian warships passing through the Suez Canal on their way to the coast of Syria. They are in the canal as we write this post. Israel sees this move as a clear military threat to their security. A "high alert" has been declared as a result of the Iranian action.
Unfortunately, the international community is not showing readiness to deal with the recurring Iranian provocations ... The international community must understand that Israel cannot ignore these provocations forever.– Avigdor Lieberman SOURCE: Deseret News (Note and update: Lieberman is Israel's Foreign Minister. An hour ago, it was reported that Iran had rescinded its request to pass through the canal.)
Finally, in the blog, Greater Kashmir, one of its reporters reminds his readers that the 30 year peace treaty between Israel and Egypt will expire in 2015, and suggests that Obama abandoned Mubarak, as he did, in hopes of convincing Egyptian youth that he was "on their side." Surveys within that country tell us that such a strategy did not work. The Egyptian people are overwhelmingly anti-American and Israel.
In the midst of all this negativity, we have this incredible news story:
It is being announced today, in the midst of the Muslim unrest sweeping the Middle East, that Obama intends to publicly criticize Israel for continuing to build in the West Bank in an effort to avoid having to veto an UN Security Council resolution declaring the West Bank settlements "illegal," a resolution expected to be voted on this coming Friday.
The Administration has "made it clear" that it will, indeed, veto a Security Council resolution condemning Israel's settlement activity in the West Bank. Apparently, to avoid this embarrassing circumstance, Obama wanted the council to forgo its Friday vote for condemnation if he offered up public criticism of Israel in a show of solidarity with the enemies of Israel running the show in the United Nation's Security Council.
Obama's disgusting and convoluted Israeli policy has put that nation, a long time friend of this country, in the greatest danger it has faced since its beginnings in 1948.
There is no greater reason for refusing Obama a second term than his disturbing incompetence with regard to the Middle East, in general, and Israel in specific. We cannot save ourselves by throwing our friends into the hands of our enemies. Obama has confused his personal agenda with a consistent and vital American agenda. The two are not the same.
