Alexander Litvinenko, poisoned by order of the Russian leadership, is pictured here just days from his death, a very painful death. He is not forgotten at Midknight Review. Wish we could say the same for Obama's memory. The Wikileaks document dump was not only bad news for the US, it did no favors for Communist Russia (they are still a bunch of commies you know). It turns out that US diplomats believed that the death of a opposition leader to Putin was approved by Putin.
We begin our report with a brief on the death of the so-called "Russian dissident," Alexander Litvinenko. Litvinenko was a military commander who opposed Putin. In 2006, he was given a drink in a local restaurant that contained a liquid radioactive substance . On November 1, Litvinenko was hospitalized. He died three weeks later, becoming the first confirmed victim of lethal polonium-210-induced acute radiation syndrome. According to doctors, "Litvinenko's murder represents an ominous landmark: the beginning of an era of nuclear terrorism"
The following information comes from an article in the Telegraph.co.uk with the headline, Wikileaks cables: Alexander Litvinenko murder 'probably had Putin's Ok.' and spells out the Wikileaks cable revelations regarding this incident.
Vladimir Putin was likely to have known about the operation in London to murder the Russian dissident Alexander Litvinenko, Washington's top diplomat in Europe alleged in secret conversations in Paris. Daniel Fried, the assistant secretary of state, questioned whether "rogue elements" in Russia's security services could have carried out the hit without Putin's direct approval. A scenario where the Kremlin was unaware of the Litvinenko plot was far-fetched "given Putin's attention to detail", Fried said. The Russians were behaving with "increasing self-confidence to the point of arrogance", he told the French, arguing for a tougher stance towards Moscow.
Again, understand the above information is ours because of the Wikileaks doc dump of two weeks ago. It should be critical information to Obama, but it is not, from all appearances.
Why is this important? Why is this the "news of the day?"
Two reasons.
First, we have Obama's childish assertion that Bush corrupted an otherwise good relationship with Russia. He had Hillary give that toy "reset" button. Putin is an evil man, a hardcore thug who cares nothing for America as a matter of Marxist/communist policy and Russia is his country. That is an opinion not shared by the idealists on the Left, including the inexperienced Obama.
Obama either does not know of the viciousness of the Russian leadership or does not care. A spokesman for the opposition Russian media, made this statement in 2006, a commentary that continues to be true (in our opinion):
"This [the death of Litvinenko] is a catastrophe. I think that this is one of the crucial moments for the future of Russia's image in the world, which has been worsening speedily lately. It's very hard to talk to the country, in which political opponents are poisoned with thallium or something else. Several events have taken place during the recent two months. We woke up in a different country every time as a result of those events: after the story with Georgia, after the assassination of Politkovskaya and after the assassination of Litvinenko. Every time it was not just somebody; every time it was the power, in this or that form. And this is very frightening,"Understand that Russia has their patriots. But their voices are controlled by the Marxist regime headed up by Prime Minister Putin, a man that Obama seems to fear. To be sure, these patriots are communists, but "communist" as members a socialist system, not as a Stalinist oriented tyranny against the people. As you read the above quote, you can sense the love of country and the fearful angst of the patriot. They are fighting the same war we are, in this country.
Individual freedoms are under assault more so than at any time in our history. This editor is 65 and knows what he is talking about. He (that would be me) has never availed himself of membership in any political group, choosing to vote and nothing else. But, that is no longer a choice. Patriots the world over, are about to loose the things that are important to them. In Russian, that has already happened.
We do not care if the likes of Obama or Chuckie Schumer are sincere. We do not care if they, too, have a love of this country. Their ideology is wrong. It (the ideology of the far Left) is now no different from the European version of Marxism and must be opposed for that very reason. Liberalism as defined as a political interest in big government has been with us from the beginning of this country. Marxism has not.
Secondly, the Marxist controlled media (that would be in Russia, not the US) has this to say in defense of the State's positron: It is an open secret that there is a certain category of people in Russia. Those people seem to know everything and blame the authorities for everything that may happen in the country. Such people are especially active in blogs and several online publications. Nevertheless, there was not even a single article or a post made about Litvinenko's death anniversary.
The point of the above is this: if Litvinenko was such a hero in his death, why no mention of its anniversary ?
Talk about moronic? Do the authors of this State Media piece actually think that the rest of the world does not understand what is going on? Why no mention of Litvinenko's death ? Could it have anything to do with fear? You think ??
Our president has completely abandoned the notion that the United States is the greatest hope for freedom of the oppressed in the world today. He makes friends with the likes of Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, the Chinese Communist leaders. Most have forgotten his opposition to the Honduran government in their battle against communist forces that threatened to take over that country. He ignores the struggles of the Iranian freedom fighters and never, ever, discusses our role in the fight for political freedom in the larger world community.
True Constitutional patriots do not act in this way. It is a disgrace that we, as a nation, have abandoned the advancement of freedom. A pledge to uphold the Constitution is a pledge to give aid to others for the same freedoms we enjoy; after all, they are freedoms bestowed upon us by our Creator, no ?
