From the Editor: Reporters at the New York Times, of all media outlets, see the last stages of the 111th Congress as thrusting about in the final stages of mindless rebellion to the realities of the midterm debacle. They knew it was going to happen but the likes of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama told the faithful not to worry. In the end, the defeat was more than any of them had imagined and now, they are lost and without any sense of direction. According to the Times and from its point of view, "the Democratic Party is in the midst of a nervous breakdown." They are busy sttacking John Boehner as if that will put them back into the news cycle in a meaningful way. Chuckie Schumer believes that political hay can be reaped from putting up a fight on "no tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. The Dream Act has higher priority than jobs, or tax cuts or budgetary legislation that was due last March.
The GOP leadership has made it clear that it will consider the New Start treatise and even DADT legislation if agreement can be made with regard to the issues just mentioned. But the Dems are hell bent on turning the election results around and wresting control of the Congress away from the conservative wave that is moving into D.C. Ain't going to happen and in the meantime, the Democrat leadership is looking more like losers than even they can imagine.
