On Monday night's edition of "Hardball," host Chris Matthews talked about putting the birth certificate controversy surrounding President Obama to rest.
"Why has the president himself not demanded they put out the original documents?" Matthews wonders.
"If it exists, why not put it out?" Chris Matthews asks. We link to RCP and the video, if you doubt our account.
Editor's notes: look, there are two reasons why Obama does not do what [even] Chris Matthews sees as a no brainer: one, there is no such certificate or, two, he has decided that no one tells Obama what to do.
Our article, this week, on this subject is here:
Tough talk about those danged old birthers. You are now a moron if you ask to see the actual document.
One point in addition to what we have said is this: the controversy came to light during the '08 campaign. Just as it was heating up, Obama shut down his campaign for a couple of days to fly to Hawaii and visit his dying grandmother. No press. No photos other than one we found of Obama getting off the airplane. No in-state itinerary. Not a single photo of him leaving or going to the hospital. Absolutely nothing in terms of documentation.
Our point? First, he did go to Hawaii and we believe he visited his grandmother. She, in fact, died in the weeks following that visit. But secondly, do we suppose that he did nothing else while there for two or three days? No Michelle and the kids.
Did he visit the county recorder's offices? Did he visit the Hawaiian media? Hawaii is one of the most liberal states in the Union. Ditto the media. And, liberals believe in the doctrine of "ends justify means." That is a fact.
Too conspiratorial? OK. BUT !! do you understand just how unusual this circumstance is? To leave off the campaign and do something, anything, without photo evidence?!! We think that is bazaar, if not conspiratorial, on the part of Obama and the press. Understand that after he became president, he began meeting EACH MORNING with the major meeting. Don't forget that "JournoList" scandal - 400 press and academics conspiring to get him elected.
It was Chris Matthews who argued that Obama's election was far too important to worry about "objective" reporting. Now, this fellow admits that showing the certificate is a no brainer.
We agree and . . . . . . maybe that's the problem. . . . . . . . the no brain[er] part.
