Here is a surprise statistic for the political junkie: The poll, conducted October 26-28 by long time pollster Frank Luntz, found that 60% of union members oppose their union bosses' record political spending in the midterm elections, viewing it a complete waste for union bosses to use union dues and treasuries to protect unpopular incumbent Democrat politicians in Washington, D.C. . . . . . Editor's notes: at the end of the day, Tuesday, November 2, 2010, Big Labor forced collections from its members totaling more than a billion dollars, all spent desperately trying to stem the GOP/grassroots conservative wave. Understand that Big Labor is in bed with the Obama Administration and had hoped to benefit from the Stimulus. They had worked out a deal with Obama that found them the benefactor of all stimulus related contracts over $25 million. Sounds good ? Indeed. The problem is found in the fact that the Administration allocated only 3% of Stimulus funding for "infrastructure and contracts." Unions working for Obama received millions more as Obama did what he could to shore up their failing legacy programs. After all, Big Labor delivered 5 states into the Obama victory column back in 2008.
The good news in all this, for the conservative grassroots movement is this: elections cannot always be bought. On the local scene, here in California, the state employees union, the SEIU , spent 150 million dollars to defeat a Fresno County supervisor that did not measure up to their liking . . . . . and lost that election. Meg Whitman spent 134 million dollars, only to lose by 10 points. And the Marixt Democrat Party suffered historic losses after spending somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 billion dollars.
Understand that when the Union forced collections from its membership and squandered that money in a losing effort, Union leadership opened the door to increasing criticism from within. Leadership lost influence with its members. This was not enough to defeat Union tyranny, but it was another brick in the counter-union construct. Midknight Review understands the idea of "unions." But, it also , is fully aware of the fact that Union leadership has been infested with One Worlders and European style Socialism. American unions are no longer based on American ideals and foundational concepts. Trumka, head of the AFL-CIO, recently suggested a One World tax that would provide retirement incomes to union membership. PERMALINK
An interesting battle between Palin and Big Labor was waged this past election. The unions with its billions and Palin with her Facebook and political clout. In another life, she would have been known as "King David, the giant killer."
