Robert Gibbs - "Economy is in a better place than it was two years ago." Oh really ??!!

Two years ago, unemployment was at 6.1%
Today -- 9.6%

Bush's debt to GDP = nominal 38%
Obama's debt to GDP = nominal 65%

Two years ago = housing foreclosures totaled approx 2 million
Today = we are on track to hit 4 million before the end of the year.

Two years ago , we had a "budget" as a matter of legislation
Today, the Dems have refused to fashion a budget statement, much less legislation. No budget for 2010 !!

Two years ago, folks drew 19 weeks of unemployment benefits before employment at some level.
Today = folks draw 36 weeks of benefits before some level of employment.

Two year ago = housing values were 237,000 on average.
Today = housing values are 204,000 on average.

Two years ago = big business was "sitting on" 1.4 trillion dollars in reserves.
Today = big business is sitting on 3.3 trillion until someone tells them what their future costs will be.

We are not making the argument that things have not improved. But, we firmly disagree that the improvements seen in the economy are the result of anything Obama is doing.

When Obama speaks of jobs, he only mentions green car manufacturing at $45,000 per unit; shovel ready jobs which obviously did not exist then or now; "potholes," weatherstripping homes, and building wind machines (any of you know of hirings in this field? We didn't think so.) When Obama speaks of infrastructure spending in the Stimulus bill, he fails to note that only 18 billion has been allocated, to date.

Finally, do we need to be reminded of the fact that this recession took place, in total, during a Democrat controlled Congress (since January of 2007); that Obama and Company VOTED FOR EVERY SINGLE SPENDING BILL put up by the Bush Administration. Not a complaint. Understand that Bush did not serve as a dictator. All spending bills, per the Constitution, originate in the House of Representatives -- all spending bills. All. And Pelosi stood over each of these bills. Obama DID NOT INHERIT anything he did not help to create !!
