The second example, a series of bridges being repaired at New York's Staten Island ferry terminal. $175 million to create 120 jobs.
Fort Bliss, Texas came next. 231 jobs created on the expense of 51 million dollars.
GE got $25 million in tax credits for building a plant that made energy efficient appliances. GE owns MSNBC and NBC News. No job count was cited.
And so on.
Most of us are aware of the fact that when Stimulus expenditures are run against the number of jobs created, we find that each and every job created costs $160,000 or more. The reason? Waste, fraud, theft, administrative costs AND UNION CONTRACT LABOR at the Federal, State and County levels. If the GOP ever takes back congress, a full-on audit needs to be made with regard to this problem. Midknight Review believes the percentage of each dollar leaving Washington and actually getting to a job site is somewhere around 30%. We are saying that 70 cents of every stimulus dollar never gets to its designated location.
If the reader hits on recovery.gov, she will find that only 749, 779 jobs created are claimed by the Federal Government. In contrast, understand that the official Obama managed number is 4 million "jobs created or saved." We wonder why the Obama Administration cannot coordinate these two numbers? Seems like that would be a simple thing to do.
Our question in all this smoke and mirror reporting is this: if Obama has created or saved 4 million jobs and the unemployment rate is 9.6%, how many more millions did GW Bush create or save to maintain an average unemployment figure of 5.2% throughout the 8 years he was president ?
Update: at IB Times.com - here is how the Stimulus worked L.A.. Of the billion dollar Stimulus bill (erroneously reported as $787 b), only $111 million went to the City of Los Angeles. With that money, only 55 jobs have been created or saved --- at an over-all cost of 2 million dollars per job !!!
The City of Los Angeles gave this comment as to the problems facing the effective use of Stimulus money:
The audit says the numbers were disappointing due to bureaucratic red tape, absence of competitive bidding for projects in private sectors, inappropriate tracking of stimulus money and a laxity in bringing out timely job reports.
Understand that this is the report in every major municipality. The failures alluded to in the L.A. report are typical of the Stimulus bill. We have been given a heavy dose of smoke and mirrors. Almost nothing the Administration tells us about the Stimulus is either true or confirmed on its own recovery.gov site.
