Romney is not our choice for GOP front runner. "Slick" doesn't catch it for Midknight Review. Palin remains a strong possibility.

Politico carries this story for Friday, July 16: In potentially the first inter-staff dust up of the 2012 presidential race, an aide of Sarah Palin is hitting back at Mitt Romney’s camp for saying the former Alaska governor is “not a serious human being.”

A “Romney intimate” was quoted by Time’s Mark Halperin in a Thursday column as saying that Palin could not withstand the rigors of a presidential campaign.

“If she’s standing up there in a debate and the answers are more than 15 seconds long, she’s in trouble,” the Romney intimate said.

An additional Romney “adviser” was quoted as saying the former Massachusetts governor’s team is not intimidated by a possible Palin run. “She’s not a serious human being,” the adviser said. . . READ MORE >>

Editor's notes: understand that Sarah Palin is attempting the profound in terms of political accomplishments. We have often called her "Miss Middle America," believing that she, alone, represents the American political dream. Her "fifteen minutes of fame" has extended far far beyond that timely restriction.

You must know that the press and the Socialist Dems play a heavy role in the GOP selection process -- not always but more often than we care to admit. Example -- John McCain's candidacy, not to mention Bob Dole's run against a Clinton second term bid. McCain was the liberal media's "man of the hour." The Lefties knew - from internal polling - that McCain was extremely unpopular to the GOP conservative base. In fact, it is estimated that 5 million of that base stayed away from the polls in November of 2008 (Obama won by 9 million or 7% of the popular vote). It is clear to this editor, that a number of GOP candidates would have beaten Obama in 2008. His victory was hardly a landslide. But our point, here, is this: the Lefties are hell bent on driving the GOP presidential selection process. They were successful in 2008.

Although it is not written in stone, we believe that Sarah Palin offers a substantial threat to Mr. Obama. While she is not the current front runner within the GOP, her numbers compared to Obama continue to improve, building to a current "dead heat" with Mr. Obama. A year ago, Obama stood 20 points up on the Governor. Big difference -- one that denies our ability to forecast just how high her positives will go.

Understand that NONE of the GOP front runners have had the media opposition of Sarah Palin. In fact, NONE of the GOP front runners have had the internal, GOP party opposition as had Palin. Still, she advances in terms of popularity.

If the Romney aide thinks Palin wilts after 15 seconds of conversation, she has not listened to the Governor, lately. No one in the GOP has played a similar role, to date, in driving the national conservative conversation or irritating the Chief Adolescent. Palin has made more personal appearances, sponsored more successful GOP candidacies, and raised more PAC money than all the other front runners, combined.

We expect that to change, somewhat. But, presently, this fact has not been given its due attention. If the good old white boys in the GOP want to ignore Palin, it may be to their political demise. We certainly hope so.

Our biggest reason for NOT supporting Romney ?? McCain pretends to like him. --- jds

As a follow-up headline, we have this good news for the governor:
