Maiden flight for the solar powered "Solar Impulse" a wonderful success.

Very cool. This aircraft is equipped with 12,000 solar cells located on the top side of its wings (the black panels are apparent in the picture, below). It stayed airborne through the night for a total of 26 hours. It reached heights of 28,000 feet. It's speed? A little on the slow side -- 25 miles per hour. The wing span is the length of a football field, 300 feet -- about the same measurement as Howard Hughes "Spruce Goose," back in the late 1940's.
