The day before "The Speech," Obama gets discouraging news.

In a poll taken by Rasmussen Reports just hours before Obama's Tuesday night Oval Office speech, his approval numbers fell to a record low for the third time since he assumed the throne - 42% . Rasmussen numbers reflecting public opinion with regard to this particular speech will not be in the books until Thursday, at the earliest. Last year Midknight Review described "42% approval" as Obama's "new zero." At this low level of approval, Obama begins to lose the support of his base IN ADDITION to the Independents. At this level, Midknight Review does not believe Obama can win re-election. Again, understand that these numbers are before the Tuesday speech. If his approval rating falls into the "30's," that will mark the end of his ability to influence the political process. We may be looking at the most critical moment in Obama's term as president.
