Sunstein’s views about the Internet and what it is doing to society are troubling enough. Far more problematic, however, is what Sunstein has suggested we should do to deal with this supposed problem. After Sunstein worked himself up to a boil about all this in Republic.com, he tossed out what I believe is the single most dangerous public policy idea for the Internet suggested in the past 10 years: mandatory “electronic sidewalks” for cyberspace.

Sunstein called for popular or partisan websites to be forced to carry links to opposing viewpoints. Think of it as a combination of must carry mandates and the Fairness Doctrine for the Internet. Thus, the National Rifle Association (NRA) would be forced to run links or editorials by anti-gun groups, and abortion rights groups would be forced to contend with links and editorials from pro-life organizations. Apparently in Sunstein’s world, people have many rights, but one of them, it seems, is not the right to be left alone or seek out the opinions one desires. Well written and as informative on the issue of internet protections against an imposing government influence as anything on the Net.

Editor's notes: if Sunstein and Obama get their way, blogs such as Midknight Review would have to post counter arguments on their sites or present links to opposing view points. Would we do this? Well, if the law required it, of course. Speaking for myself, as editor, it would change the writing style of this blog. If you think we are "conservative" now, just wait until such a law goes into effect. The articles written by this editor would rise to a increased height of assertiveness. Understand that a blog's audience is turned off by a continuing "running debate." People will leave said blog(s) in droves. As a result of that fact, editor's such as myself, would have to absolutely destroy the opposition, present the opposing links, and move on to the next story. Instead of bringing the nation together, the new regulations would, of necessity, divide this country even further. Understand that the Obama administration has already been told "no" with regards to controlling the Internet via FCC regulations. Can you understand the implications of the Government, an Obama Socialist/Marxist Government, being in full charge of political correctness on the airwaves, the Internet and in the print media? And these clowns claim to be "Constitutional" experts.

Remember Elena Kagan? She's the babe Obama has nominated for the High Court. Turns out that she comes from Chicago, was a tenured prof at the University of Chicago (Obama taught there, as well) , brought the Marxist Cass Sunstein into the faculty and pronounced him to be the "preeminent legal scholar of our time. " Obama's nomination of Kagan is no casual decision. She is one of the Chicago insiders Obama has gathered around his increasing administrative influence and she needs to be rejected for these very reasons.
