One of the first things accomplished by Obama was a move against poor black families and privately funded schools.

Another article featuring the theme of Obama's two-faced nature.
If you think Obama is pro-education, guess again. As it turns out, he is pro-union whether auto union, government employees unions, or -- in this case -- pro teachers unions. After a year in office, it has become apparent that he cares nothing for the "private sector" except as it plays a role in his elections strategies. We are about to hear [later this day ?] discouraging news with regard to employment. What will not be mentioned in the coming days is the fact that the unemployment rate in D.C. is less than 6%, due to the growth of public sector jobs (aka government jobs). In fact, private sector jobs have been almost totally ignored by this Administration in terms of stimulus provided to private business. And now, we are given a dose of Obama's hypocrisy concerning his stance on education, the poor, and his blind allegiance to the unions. The following editorial opinion from one of Oklahoma's more popular newspapers says it all. We have nothing more to add.

From an editorial found in the Oklahoman and dated 1/21/2010:
Although the Obama administration acts like it wishes the District of Columbia’s imperiled school voucher program would simply fade away, the program’s backers refuse to cooperate.

So far the administration is watching congressional Democrats slowly strangle the program, through which the families of about 1,700 District children receive $7,500 scholarships to attend private schools, thereby escaping D.C.’s notoriously poor public system.

The teachers unions despise the program. They wanted it canceled outright when President Obama took office, but Obama instead agreed to keep it alive until children already in graduate. But no new students will be admitted. Once the current participants are finished, the program will cease to exist.

It’s a sorry surrender to the power of the teachers unions, especially considering the president exercised school choice — attending a prestigious private school in Hawaii on scholarship — while nearly 40 percent of the members of Congress have sent a child to private school at some point.

Silence from the White House on the program is deafening. "It is so frustrating, to me, as an African-American, that the president hasn’t jumped to help us,” Virginia Walden Ford, of D.C. Parents for School Choice, said last week. "I’m really, really angry he hasn’t fought for this program.”

There’s no indication that will change. At an education event last week, Jill Biden, the vice president’s wife, professor and education advocate, passed on a question about D.C.’s vouchers. "I really haven’t followed it,” she said. "I’ve been really busy.” What a statement.
