Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Monday that the United States was designating the Islamic Republic Revolutionary Guard Corps a foreign terrorist organization.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is a branch of Iran’s Armed Forces founded after 1979 Revolution by order of Ayatollah Khomeini. The Revolutionary Guard is expected to protect the country’s Islamic Republic system. The IRGC has been linked to terrorist attacks around the world including attacks on US soldiers in Iraq
