In more than one in six cases, or 129,825 times, government searchers said they came up empty-handed last year. This total represents 77% of all requests for transparency under our "Sunshine Laws" and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and this applies to 2015 alone. In 2009, Obama's first year, this failure totaled 65% of all requested information. Overall, 2009 through 2015, the Obama administration censored materials it turned over or fully denied access to them in a record 596,095 cases. "A failure to comply" has been the case with our government since well before Obama, but his record of noncompliance is the most extreme.
Confirming this story and proving that liberals actually care about transparency, the very liberal "Democracy Now" filed this report in March of 2014 about the Administration and its noncompliance with regard to FOIA requests in 2013 and before: "As the news industry observed its annual 'Sunshine Week' in mid-March, The Associated Press reported that '[m]ore often than ever, the administration censored government files or outright denied access to them last year under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act [FOIA].' The AP report continued, 'The government’s efforts to be more open about its activities last year [that would be 2013 ~ editor] were their worst since President Barack Obama took office.' ”
