The Federal Government partners with the several states, in funding unemployment benefits beyond the 26 week limit existing in most states. Understand that employers typically fund this benefit program. The extension, proposed by the Senate, would pay for an extended benefits program of 39 to 73 weeks, depending upon the particular state's allowances. Make note that on the second map, below, showing these extensions, Obama's state of Illinois and Harry Reid's state of Nevada, are the only states, under this extension deal, that provides for 73 continuous weeks of unemployment benefits.
