If ObamaCare is here to stay, in some
form, certainly we need to take time to reconsider its weaknesses and
correct them. ObamaCare failed to enroll the nation (missed that
mark by 30 million), to reduce annual premium costs per individual
(missed that mark by $2,500 per year for a family of four), failed
miserably in Obama's repeated promises, to wit: "You can keep your
doctor, period; you can keep your insurance, period," and, will destroy whatever is left of Medicare Care. The Graves Amendment stops ObamaCare in its tracks for one year. It
is not ready for prime time, anyway, so why not make it official,
or do we allow Obama to determine what parts of this idiot bill he will
"defund" through 2014? - blog editor
Congressman Tom Graves (R-GA-14th) has introduced H.J.Res. 62, the Stability, Security, and Fairness Resolution of 2013 which defunds all discretionary spending on ObamaCare and delays implementation of mandatory spending for one year. It does not 'repeal' ObamaCare. It stops it cold for one year, with no government shutdown, unless Harry Reid chooses not to co-operate, and yes it would be the fault of Democrats if a shutdown ensues. The future goal to repeal. If this works, it gives us the 2014 elections to add conservatives in the House and Senate to facilitate the complete repeal.
(L-R) Rep. Tom Graves, Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee
With a divided GOP majority, it is lauded as the only way to bring Republicans together. It will disallow any Obama attempts to "waive" certain aspects of the bill for certain classes of citizens (unions, corporations that have supported him and special interests).
Most importantly, it thwarts Obama's cunning little plan to make everything all sweetness and light for Democrats trying to gain new seats or keep the ones they have in 2014:
Both Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee are behind the Graves proposal:
The following is the pertinent part of the Graves Resolution. Read the entire language here.
Rep. Graves came to the House in January 2013, as did Senator Cruz. Senator Lee arrived in 2011. All three deserve great praise for their leadership in representing the voices of the people from sea-to-shining sea.
If Boehner and Cantor attempt to derail this, their ass(ets) should be grass. This is the time (and the time is very, very short) to show us how committed our elected officials are to defending the "security" and "stability" of the U.S. We need Defending Fathers. Step-it up NOW.
