<<<<< If Barack Obama had truly been congenial, inclusive and non-combative, he could have destroyed conservatism for
decades into the future. Thank gawd, he is a combative community organizer rather
than a skilled politician. And to think
there are those who do not believe in a resurrection from the dead. Hail to the Conservative Party!!
From the Washington Post’s dutiful presentation, we have the
Axelrod accusation, one that was
shared by Obama pundits all day, Sunday,
September the 2nd. But there is a question attached to the Post's record:
Why has President Obama fallen so far short of what he so
passionately described as a candidate four years ago? To the partisans on both
sides, the answers are simple — and fundamentally at odds.
The president’s advisers contend that Republicans chose the
course of obstruction and intransigence from the day Obama was sworn in.
“We met an implacable opponent in the Republican
leadership,” said David Axelrod, senior strategist for Obama’s reelection
campaign and former White House senior adviser. “They made a decision, and
they’ve been very open about it, that from Day One they weren’t going to
cooperate on any major issue.” (Source: Washington Post)
The Obama campaign
makes the accusation of “opposition from day one” without ever offering any proof of said quote. As it turns
out, the McConnell statement was not
made until October, 10, 2010, nearly two
years into the Obama presidency. At the
time, Obama had not spent a single
moment in one on one meetings with either McConnell or John Boehner, Senate and House minority leaders, respectively.
As to the GOP’s ability to obstruction and
non-cooperation, Scott Brown, a Republican,
was sworn into office on February 3,
2010. For the first year of Obama’s
term, the GOP literally did not
count when it came to opposition. Congressional Democrats could have passed Cap
and Trade, a so-called “comprehensive immigration law,” and “fixed” both Medicare and Social
Security. Instead,
they gave away 1.2 trillion dollars to Democrat congressional
districts, teacher and trade unions in a
stimulus bill (832 billion dollars) and
an omnibus bill ($400 billion) -- passing both bills before the end of the Spring, 2009, and wasted the rest of the year trying to pass a
health care bill that the people did not want and the GOP could not
prevent. The 2010 midterm disaster was
the result.
Conclusion: the Democrats have only themselves to
blame. To imagine that with the election
of one man, Scott Brown, the Dems were “shut down” for the course of
the ensuing year (2010) is a little bizarre.
To think that they could not find one liberal minded Republican to vote
for their agenda at some point, is
indicative of the “screw you, do it our
way or hit the road” brand of congressional “negotiations” replete within the Obama Administration.
