Update: Understand that, to date, the Dems have not "unleashed" on Romney. Why? Well, I believe it is because they have plans for him and his candidacy. It is clear that in declaring that ObamaCare was patterned after Romney's health care plan for Massachusetts, Obama is setting Romney up for the 2012 campaign. Compared to Gingrich, Romney is the least passionate and, for that reason, may have the least effect in a debate. While Gingrich is no perfect angel by anyone's stretch of the imagination, his problems have been "out there" for more than a decade. We all have heard the criticisms before.
All in all, Newt is the better man in a debate and one of the more informed in terms of political history.
Obama has attached himself to Reagan, Lincoln, FDR, Truman and, as of yesterday, Teddy Roosevelt, rather than run on his own merits. That is a lot of political history and, most of us are willing to bet that Newt knows much more about the history of each man Obama is attempting to channel than Obama wants to admit.
More than this, Newt is the GOP representative more willing to admit personal wrongs and dish out passionate and informed criticisms. He is more the intellectual than Obama ever thought of being, better read, more experienced, with a list of conservative type accomplishments already under his belt, along with his several "liberal" diversions. And, he is more than capable of coming up with the "profound." Obama doesn't know how to pronounce "corps" (as in Marine Corps), much less being capable of any sense of profundity, something most of us expect to see in the truly "intellectual" pundit.
Finally, folks argue that Newt is not high on the "likability" scale, but Truman, Eisenhower, Nixon, Carter, George H and George W Bush were hardly, "warm and fuzzy" presidents. Obama is not going to win on "warm and fuzzy." Heck, his "likability" is pretty much limited to those on the Left of the political divide. People in my house think he is thin skinned, unimaginative and a classless jerk. The TEA party's primary candidates are not running, for the most part, but will get behind the candidacies of either Gingrich or Mitt Romney.
2012 ?? Bring it on !!
